Concrete and rebar are now rising from a long-vacant lot just north of the Reseda Theatre, the future site of a new senior affordable housing complex from Azure Development and Thomas Safran & Associates.
Canby Woods West, located at 7219-7227 N. Canby Avenue, will consist of a four-story building which will feature 26 one- and two-bedroom apartments reserved for low- and very low-income seniors.

The Spanish Colonial Revival development, designed by William Hezmalhalch Architects, will include on-site amenities such as a fitness center, a courtyard, and parking for six vehicles.
According to the Azure Development website, eligible residents for Canby Woods West will be selected through Los Angeles County's coordinated entry system. On-site services will include case management, financial education, and transportation assistance.

The project, which would sit across the street from the Canby Woods senior apartments that were also built by Thomas Safran & Associates, is funded through a combination of state and local sources.
Construction of Canby Woods West will also be coordinated with the reactivation of the historic Reseda Theatre, a local landmark on Sherman Way.
