The Iranian American Jewish Foundation is looking to redevelop a parking lot across the street from its headquarters, according to a presentation to the West Hollywood Planning Commission's Design Review Subcommittee.

The proposed project, which would rise at the northeast corner of Fountain Avenue and Crescent Heights Boulevard, calls for the construction of a five-story edifice featuring 37 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments - including 10 affordable units - above subterranean parking for 86 vehicles.

Tighe Architecture is designing the apartment complex, which will include both traditional flats and two-level townhouse style units on its upper floors.  Roof terraces are planned at the fourth level, with shade provided by solar canopies.  Plans call for an exterior of wood panels, board formed concrete, and plaster, with pedestrian entrances off of both Fountain and Crescent Heights.

A report to the Architectural Review Board describes the project as being "very well thought out," with strategically located open spaces and a diverse array of unit types.  The report recommends that the subcommittee provide additional feedback on the building design in advance of a public hearing.

The proposed development would rise one block south of the intersection of Crescent Heights and Sunset Boulevard, where Los Angeles-based Townscape Partners is scheduled to break ground later this year on a controversial Frank Gehry-designed housing complex.

The Iranian American Jewish Foundation, which was founded in the wake of the 1979 Iranian revolution, provides resources and assistance for new immigrants to the United States, according to the organization's website.
