A notice recently distributed to nearby residents sheds light on plans for yet another hotel and housing complex on West Hollywood's famed Sunset Strip.
The latest development, called the Harper on Sunset, would rise from a corner site at 8240 Sunset Boulevard. The project, which is named for its cross street Harper Avenue, would replace two small office buildings and a surface parking lot.
According to a project website, the Harper would consist of a 172-room hotel and 46 mixed-income housing units above ground-floor shops and restaurants. A subterranean parking garage with capacity for 174 vehicles would be located beneath the building.
AXIS/GFA is the project's executive architect, while Steven Kent Architects is serving as design consultant. Plans call for nine- and seven-story buildings.
"The building will be a distinctive new architectural landmark for the eastern gateway of the Sunset Strip, integrating a remarkable digital billboard display wrapping around the southeast corner of Sunset Boulevard and Harper Avenue," reads a description included with a notice recently distributed to neighbors of the property.
"The building floats above street level with an expansive opening to the inner courtyard, with abundant outdoor seating and lush landscape features that will generate much desired pedestrian activity on Sunset Boulevard," explains a narrative from a project landing page on the Steven Kent Architects website.
The project is listed among the portfolio of real estate development and construction firm A.J. Khair, which is currently based out one of the office buildings slated to be demolished for the hotel.
More information is available at the project's official website.
The project's combination of a hotel, housing, and commercial uses within a single site represents a tried and true formula for the Sunset Strip, which has recently seen the completion of two similar projects: the Pendry Hotel & Residences and the Edition Hotel & Residences. Additional developments are slated for properties at 8850 and 9034 Sunset Boulevard.
