Los Angeles-based developer SoLa Impact has started construction on its latest affordable housing development in San Pedro, reports the Daily Breeze.

The new project, located at the former site of a single-family home at 4th and Gaffey Streets, will consist of a five-story edifice featuring 28 apartments above a street-level parking garage.  The new housing will be geared toward senior veterans and formerly homeless persons.

The Daily Breeze reports that the new building, designed by architect Brian Noteware, will include a rooftop amenity deck and a recreation room.  A rendering displayed at the ceremony depicts the new building as a boxy low-rise structure, which will be composed of four floors of wood-framing above a concrete base.

A statement given at the ceremony points to a roughly 12-to-18-month construction period for the project.

SoLa Impact, which was founded in 2015, develops affordable housing using opportunity zone funds.  In addition to various projects in South Los Angeles, the firm is also building a larger 48-unit apartment complex nearby in San Pedro.
