A block north of Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park, a surface parking lot has made way for a new senior affordable housing project from Domus Development.
The Ambrose Apartments, located at 1611-1615 Montana Street, will consist of a five-story building featuring 64 apartments above ground-level parking for 11 vehicles. Save for a two-bedroom manager's units, all of the units will come in studio and one-bedroom layouts, according to architectural plans approved earlier this year by the Planning Department.
The $34.8-million project, according to a 2020 staff report to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, is a joint venture between Domus, Skid Row Housing Trust, and Affordable Housing CDC. The apartments will be set aside for rent by households earning no more than 30 percent of the area median income, with rents set between $591 and $633 per month.
KFA Architecture is designing the apartment complex, which is which is depicted in a rendering as a contemporary low-rise structure clad in plaster and fiber cement panels. Planned on-site amenities include community rooms, a central courtyard, and a rooftop deck.
Domus Development, an affiliate of Irvine-based real estate firm Newport Partners, is developing two similar projects in Koreatown, and is also behind a third project in Panorama City.
