Just west of Westfield's flagship Century City shopping mall, a prolific local developer of multifamily housing has broken ground on its latest project.
Heavy equipment is now pushing dirt at 10306-10330 Santa Monica Boulevard, where California Landmark Group has secured permits for the construction of a six-story building featuring 91 one-, two-, and three-bedroom dwellings - including 11 very low-income affordable units - above parking for 68 vehicles.
Abramson Architects is designing the proposed development, which will feature an exterior of textured concrete and dark grey plaster.
"By breaking the massing into smaller volumes, the structure blends seamlessly with the larger Century City towers and the low-rise context," reads a design narrative from a landing page on the firm's website. "Recessed private balconies feature contrasting accent materials that add an air of whimsy to the exterior facade while casting dynamic shadows inside each of the units."
Conceptual renderings depict the building with a rooftop deck and a central courtyard, among other open space features.
Construction is expected to occur over an 18-month period, according to an environmental report published by the City of Los Angeles.
The project follows a number of low-rise apartment buildings that have recently been built near Century City, where construction is in the home stretch for two 46-story condo towers adjacent to the Century Plaza Hotel.
