The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has approved funding for affordable housing that will facilitate the construction of approximately 100 units of affordable housing in Willowbrook.
According to 2nd District Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, the Board approved $50 million to building affordable apartments for people with mental illnesses through the Mental Health Service Act. The money will go towards 10 developments across Los Angeles County, totaling 667 units.
The Willowbrook project would be built by LINC Housing Corporation, a nonprofit builder with numerous developments throughout Los Angeles County. A rendering portrays a five-story building highlighted by protruding orange balconies.
The County is currently in the midst of currently considering a new specific plan that would govern land use on 312 acres of land surrounding the Metro's Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station, one of the busiest on the Metro Rail system. An expansive renovation is also taking shape for the station area, including safety and cosmetic upgrades.
