A mixed-use building featuring rental housing over ground-floor commercial space is on the rise in Warner Center.
Yaya Vanowen, located at 21121 Vanowen Street, will consist of a seven-story edifice featuring 101 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above nearly 4,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Plans also call for 121 parking stalls, which will be located on three levels - including one above ground and one below ground.
CORBel Architects is designing the contemporary podium-type building, which will feature five levels of wood frame construction above a concrete base. A representative of the architecture has previously described Yaya Vanowen as being of the contemporary style, featuring amenities such as a roof garden and a fitness center.
City records list the project's developer as an entity called Yaya Vanowen, LLC, which is managed by Al Leibovic. Leibovic is also developing a 43-unit apartment complex in North Hills.
The project is expected to achieve LEED Silver certification upon completeion.
Yaya Vanowen is located just west of a smaller 18-unit apartment complex now wrapping up constuction. Several other large projects are in the works a few blocks south on Variel Avenue.
