The Purple Line may not be scheduled to reach La Brea Avenue until 2023, but developers are already looking to capitalize on the upcoming subway extension.
Earlier today, local developer CGI Strategies filed plans with the City of Los Angeles to construct a residential-complex at 639 S. La Brea Avenue, immediately north of the future Wilshire/La Brea Station. A case filing from the Planning Department describes the project as a 12-story building featuring 146 market rate apartments, 14 units of very low income housing, a market food hall, ground-floor retail space and a rooftop restaurant.
Sources indicate that Santa Monica-based Killefer Flammang Architects is designing the proposed development.
The project joins similar developments along Wilshire Boulevard, including the Mansfield and the frequently-panned Wilshire La Brea Apartments.
Woodland Hills-based CGI is already an active player in Koreatown, where the company is now building a podium-type apartment building and has filed plans for a seven-story mixed-use complex.
