Earlier today, officials from the City of Long Beach, the Long Beach Community Investment Company and Century Housing Corporation announced the grand opening of Anchor Place, a $28-million supportive housing complex in West Long Beach.

The project, designed by the Architects Collective, is located on a former Navy housing site at 2000 River Avenue.  The collection of five- and six-story buildings comprise 120 housing units - of which 75 are reserved for homeless veterans and the remaining 45 for extremely low-income residents.

Anchor Place features a mixture of one-, two- and three-bedroom dwellings, in addition to communal open space and recreational areas.

Rents in the new complex will be subsidized through Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing vouchers, which will provide $720,000 annually, translating to $10.8 million total over an initial 15-year period.

The project is the fifth phase of a 27-acre development at the former Savannah Cabrillo Naval Housing complex.
