A gym at 1001 Colorado Street in Glendale has been demolished, and construction is now underway for a new Holiday Inn & Suites hotel in its place.

The 37,500-square-foot project site, located mid-block between Adams and Cedar Streets, will see the construction of a four-story, 50-foot-tall building featuring 134 guest rooms and ancillary functions.  Plans also call for 134 parking spaces, to be located at-grade and in two basement levels.

A 2016 staff report to the Glendale Design Review Board describes the project as featuring a "contemporary, rectilinear style," with a white stucco exterior accented by composite wood panels, aluminum, and concrete.

The project is being designed by Alajajian Marcoosi Architects.  The project applicant is listed as an entity called A & S Colorado, LP, which is based out of the same address as Sinanian Development.

At the time the project was submitted for review, the Glendale News-Press reported that the Holiday Inn would require a zone variance to reach four stories, as land use regulations limited buildings at the site to three floors.
