A mixed-use development centered on a limited-service hotel could rise from the site of a shuttered El Torito at 600 S. Sepulveda Boulevard, according to a notice published by the City of Manhattan Beach.

The centerpiece of the project - which is slated for a 1.5-acre site bounded by Sepulveda Boulevard, Tennyson Street, and Chabela Drive - would be an L-shaped four-story structure containing 162 hotel rooms with parking for 152 vehicles.  Plans also call for the construction of a separate two-story building featuring 9,455 square feet of office space and 6,893 square feet of ground-floor retail.

Renderings of the project, which was the subject of Manhattan Beach Planning Commission hearings on October 14 and November 18, depict a pair of contemporary low-rise structures separated by a small surface parking lot.

City records list the project applicant as MB Hotel Partners, LLC, an entity affiliated with Manhattan Beach-based real estate development firm Live Oak Properties.

The hotel site is located a quarter-mile south of the corporate headquarters of footwear and apparrel company Skechers, which is poised to double in size following an expansion project announced in 2019.
