Construction is complete for a $2-million streetscape improvement project in the Fashion District, according to an announcement from 14th District Councilmember Jose Huizar.
The project, which spans three blocks of Los Angeles Street between Olympic Boulevard and 7th Street, is part of Huizar's DTLA Forward campaign, which looks to improve the pedestrian environment throughout Downtown. Specific project components included:
- 13,000 square feet of sidewalk repair;
- 18 pedestrian lights;
- 27 new street trees;
- ADA-compliant curb ramps;
- 14 high visibility crosswalks;
- New trash Cans; and
- Two curb extensions at existing mid-block crosswalks.
Funding for the project was provided by a $1.9-million Metro Call for Projects Grant, as well as a $50,000 contribution from the Fashion District Business Improvement District.
