A year-and-a-half after our last update, the wood-and-concrete frame of a mixed-use housing complex is now complete next to the El Monte Bus Station.
The project, called The Paseo at the Gateway, is being developed by Grapevine Advisors on a 2.3-acre site at Santa Anita Avenue and Santa Fe Drive. The five-story edifice will feature 208 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above approximately 25,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space and a semi-subterranean parking garage.
SVA Architects is designing the contemporary podium-type development which will include a large amenity deck.
The Paseo development is the second component of a master plan for 60 acres of land flanking El Monte Station, which is billed as the busiest bus terminal west of the Mississippi River.
A first phase of the master plan - a 135-unit affordable housing development - opened on an adjacent lot in 2015. Other adjoining sites are slated for hotel and multifamily housing projects.
The signature element of the master plan, which would rise from a property adjacent to the I-10 Freeway, would consist of a 12-story building featuring a hotel and retail space.
