A proposed high-rise development feature a hotel and condominiums is on pace to begin construction in early 2019, according to its developer, Leo Lee.

The project, which would rise at 3800 W. 6th Street, calls for the construction of a 21-story tower featuring 122 residential units, a 192-room Hyatt Centric Hotel, and 14,500 square feet of commercial space.  It has received "verbal approval," following a Zoning Administrator's hearing on December 19, and a letter of determination is anticipated within the coming two weeks.

The proposed tower, designed by LARGE Architecture, would stand 240 feet in height.  The project's height would be concentrated toward the eastern property line along Hobart Boulevard, with condos set to occupy the upper floors of the building.  The hotel and retail space would be concentrated in an eight-story structure toward the western property line along Serrano Avenue.

Parking for all uses would be situated in a below-grade garage.

“When a high-end hotel goes up in an underserved neighborhood, the area becomes more of a centerpiece,” said Developer Leo Lee in a statement. “Koreatown is a neglected neighborhood in Los Angeles and is 20 years behind Hollywood in hospitality— the W Hotel played a large role in its revitalization years ago. It’s time for a true 4-star hotel and residence experience of that caliber in Koreatown.”

Completion of 3800 W. 6th Street is expected in early-to-mid-2021.

A similar mid-rise development featuring a hotel with condos and retail is planned on the opposite side of 6th Street.
