A Solana Beach-based real estate firm is moving forward with plans to build apartments at the site of an abandoned quarry in Torrance.

The project, which is being designed by Withee Malcolm Architects, would include a mix of one- and two-bedroom dwellings, in addition to amenities such as a community room, a gym, and a 484-car parking garage.
Per the project's draft environmental impact report, construction is anticipated to occur over approximately 29 months, starting in January 2020 and concluding in June 2022. This timeline has been pushed back since the release of the development's initial study in 2017, which forecasted a buildout between 2019 and 2021.
According to a project website, the completed Solana development is expected to generate over $3.2 million in one-time infrastructure and school fee payments, and $1 million in annual tax payments afterward.
