A triplex locate just south of Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood is primed to give way to a new multifamily residential development.
The project from property owner 833 Westbourne, LLC, which would rise at 833 Westbourne Drive, calls for the construction of a six-story building featuring 25 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above parking for six vehicles.
Ottinger Architects is designing the contemporary low-rise building, according to plans included with a presentation to the West Hollywood Planning Commission's Design Review Subcommittee.
"The project’s massing is organized as a six-story residential volume articulated through rectilinear strategy," reads a staff report. "The overall form reads as a primary block, with vertical and horizontal modulation expressed through recessed and projecting planes. At the street-facing corner, the building emphasizes a vertical edge condition through continuous glazing and contrasting material panels that frame stacked window groupings."
While relatively modest in scale, the project originated through a Builder's Remedy application to the City of West Hollywood, according to the staff report. The neighboring City of Beverly Hills has seen a flood of such applications, many of which are designed by Ottinger Architects.
