Construction began in February for a large multifamily residential complex near the Pomona North Metrolink commuter rail station.
The project, located on a 4.2-acre site at Bonita and Garey Avenues, is a joint venture between Greystar and HQ Capital. Plans call for the construction a four-story edifice that would contain 312 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. The low-rise structure would wrap a central parking garage.
KTGY Architecture + Planning is designing the development, which would incorporate multiple courtyards and other amenities such as a fitness center, a pool, and a club house. Renderings depict a contemporary design.
Greystar and HQ Capital have named the project The Gabriel due to its proximity to and views of the San Gabriel Mountains. The property is also located near the Cities of La Verne and Claremont.
The apartments are scheduled to open in phases between December 2021 and June 2022.
The Gabriel was originally approved by a different entity as part of a larger mixed-use complex which would include more than 600 apartments. Greystar and HQ Capital are developing more than half of the roughly 8.4-acre site, while the remaining area would be built through a separate project, according to a company representative.
In addition to Metrolink trains, the Pomona North Station is also poised to serve as the future eastern terminus of Metro's L Line, which is being extended east from Azusa. Construction for the extension began on July 10, and is scheduled for completion in 2025.
