A surface parking lot which has served the offices of The Korea Daily newspaper could be redeveloped with apartments, according to an application submitted earlier this month to the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.
Chansik Cho, listed as the chief executive officer of the Korean language publication, is the applicant behind the proposed development at 2904 W. 7th Street through the entity Joongang Holdings USA, Inc.. Plans call for the construction of a six-story building which would feature 40 apartments above street-level parking for 20 vehicles.
Requested entitlements include Transit Oriented Communities incentives to permit a taller building than would otherwise be allowed by zoning rules. In exchange, four of the proposed apartments as affordable housing at the extremely low-income level.
City records list EWAI as the architect behind 2904 W. 7th Street.
The proposed project sits one block south of Wilshire Boulevard, where prolific Koreatown builder Jamison Services is pursuing a mixed-use projects at 3000 and 3020 Wilshire Boulevard. Jamison has previously partnered on the nearby Kurve on Wilshire and Nexen apartments, which are already complete.
