A new multifamily residential development is on the rise next to the MainPlace Mall in Santa Ana, according to social media posts from general contractor W.E. O'Neil.

Carina at MainPlace, which broke ground earlier this year at 2828 N. MainPlace Drive, is being developed by Lowe in partnership with property owner Affinius Capital and Centennial. Plans call for a new eight-story complex featuring 408 apartments in a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom plans. The project will also include podium and subterranean parking.

AC Martin is designing Carina, which will include a fourth-floor pool deck, outdoor dining areas, a landscaped courtyard, a fitness center, and co-working space.

"The long sweeping east elevation is given a unique identity using slim articulated frames to accentuate key moments in the building façade, using smooth metal panels and light-colored plaster gives it a modern elegant feel," reads a narrative from the AC Martin website. "Using a mix of landscaping and curated horizontal fins to deter the visibility of the garage, creating a higher level of experience at the pedestrian level."

Completion of The Carina is expected in 2028.

The project follows the 2023 completion of a companion project, the 309-unit Paloma apartments at 2727 N. MainPlace Drive.
