A large, mostly vacant property sandwiched between the I-105 freeway and Prairie Avenue could be redeveloped with a high-density apartment complex, according to an initial study published by the City of Inglewood.

The Prairie Station development, slated for a property at 11227 S. Prairie Avenue, spans roughly five acres between the freeway trench and one of its off-ramps. Proposed plans call for the construction of a trio of podium-type apartment buildings, containing a combined total of 440 residential units accompanied by parking for 670 vehicles.

The developer of the apartment complex is listed as Hawthorne-based real estate firm K.I.G. Properties.

Plans call for six-story buildings across the site, each consisting of five floors of wood-frame construction above a concrete base. New internal streets would separate the buildings, which would include courtyards and other amenities such as a swimming pool.

Vehicular ingress and egress to the site is proposed via a short segment of 113th Street that cuts through, then dead ends within the site.

According to the initial study, construction of Prairie Station is expected to occur over a 27-month period, commencing as early as January 2024 and concluding by Spring 2026.

As the name might imply, the project site sits within walking distance of Metro's Hawthorne / Lennox, which is located in the median of the 105 Freeway, but has an access points off Imperial Highway to the south.
