Plans for an expansive park as part of the master-planned Porter Ranch neighborhood in the north San Fernando Valley are moving forward, based with an application submitted last week with the City of Los Angeles.

The project, according to its case filing with the Planning Department, calls for the construction of a 50-acre park at 11900 N. Mason Avenue, consisting of an event pavilion with terraced seating, a promenade with space for a farmer's market, a children's playground, sports courts, hiking and equestrian trails, two public restrooms, a maintenance facility, and a parking lot.

The park site is bounded by a series of single-family neighborhoods to the north of the 118 Freeway.

South of the park, a $150-million center known as the Vineyards at Porter Ranch is now under construction.  At completion it will feature 345,000 square feet of retail space - including a Whole Foods Market - a Kaiser Permaente medical office buildings, a hotel, and a 266-unit apartment complex.
