Construction formally commenced on November 10 for a linear park near the DeForest Wetlands and the Los Angeles River in North Long Beach.

The 51st Street Greenbelt, which will span a one-acre property along the west side of DeForest Avenue between 51st and 52nd Streets, will incorporate features including walking trails, a cycle track, fitness equipment, play structures, new landscaping, seating, bioswales, hydration stations, and ADA parking.

“The 51st Street Greenbelt is more than just a park—it's part of our commitment to ensuring every Long Beach neighborhood has safe, welcoming green spaces where families can play, exercise and connect with nature,” said Mayor Long Beach Rex Richardson in a news release. “This project brings equitable access to outdoor recreation and continued pride to North Long Beach, and I am thankful for our community’s collaboration in bringing this project to life.”

City Fabrick is serving as the project's landscape architect.
