Though a groundbreaking ceremony was held in August 2022, heavy equipment finally arrived on site earlier this year next to Bethel A.M.E. Church in Manchester Square, where RMG Housing has commenced work on yet another affordable housing complex.

The project, which replaced the church's parking lot at 7924 S. Western Avenue, will eventually consist of a five-story building featuring 53 residential units on its upper floors.

The apartment complex, which will consist almost entirely of one-bedroom units, was financed by sources including $11.3 million from SDS Capital Group's supportive housing fund.

Decro Group is also affiliated with the project, and is slated to provide on-site supportive services for residents.

At the time of its groundbreaking, Bethel Manor was expected to be completed by August 2024.

The project is a familiar strategy for RMG, which has a habit of building on church properties. RMG is also behind a proposed 47-unit supportive housing on the site of Southside Bethel Baptist Church at 10400 San Pedro Street.
