In 2017, A Community of Friends (ACOF) completed the affordable Silver Star apartments in Hyde Park.  Now, the non-profit developer is planning a follow-up project next door.

The Silver Star II development, slated for a roughly 20,000-square-foot property at 6576-6604 S. West Boulevard, calls for the construction of a 64-unit apartment building catering to low- and very low-income households.  ACOF's requested entitlements for the project include streamlined permitting in accordance with SB 35, as well as density bonus incentives allowing for increased height and floor area.

The proposed development, budgeted at approximately $26.6 million, has been approved to receive $6.4 million in funding via Measure HHH.

A timeline for the project is unclear.

The Silver Star II development, planned just north of the Crenshaw/LAX Line's Fairview Heights station, is one of numerous affordable housing developments in the works near the under-construction light rail line.  Two blocks west at Crenshaw Boulevard, a container-based housing project is slated to replace a church.

A Community of Friends recently broke ground on another affordable housing development in the Florence-Firestone community.
