A plans to convert a vacant women's shelter near USC into permanent supportive housing is poised to take an important step forward this month.
Los Angeles Housing + Community Investment Department will soon issue a request to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the release of $7.4 million in Section 8 Project-Based Voucher Funds for the Casa de Rosas Housing project. The project, which is being developed by the Integral Development with Ward Economic Development Corporation, calls for the adaptive reuse of four existing buildings at 2600 Hoover Street as a campus featuring 37 units of permanent supportive housing.
M2A Architects is designing the Casa de Rosas development, which will create a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom dwellings ranging between 276 square feet and 720 square feet in size.
The Casa de Rosas project is budgeted at $17.7 million. The Section 8 vouchers would be paid in annual installments of $493,380 over a period of 15 years.
Casa de Rosas dates to the late 19th century, and has served at various points over its 125-year life as a kindergarten, a college preparatory academy, military barracks, and even as the headquarters of L. Ron Hubbard's Dianetics Foundation.
