In Boyle Heights, the wrapping is off at La Veranda, a new supportive housing development from Abode Communities.

The project, which broke ground in mid-2021 at 2420 E. Cesar E. Chavez Avenue, consists of two four-story buildings which will feature a total of 77 apartments above ground-floor commercial space and parking at completion.

Plans call for a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, half of which will be reserved for formerly homeless households, and the remainder for renters making no more than 20 percent of the area median income level.

Abode is also designing the apartment complex, with landscape work by AHBE | MIG. The contemporary low-rise buildings, clad in white stucco, include common spaces such as a children's play area, a jogging path, and a garden for residents.

La Veranda is one of several joint developments associated with properties near the L Line, including new projects planned near the Mariachi Plaza and Soto Stations.  Abode Communities is partnering with Metro on another of those developments - a proposed 60-unit apartment complex with a grocery store and a pocket park one block east at Cesar Chavez and Fickett Street.
