Just east of MacArthur Park, a new affordable housing complex from Meta Housing Corporation is wrapping up construction directly behind the Westlake Theatre.
The project at 619 S. Westlake Avenue stands five stories in height, and will 78 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments at completion. The apartments are to be reserved for households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income level, with half set aside for formerly unhoused residents, according to a landing page on the website of general contractor Milender White.
A project website advertises floor plans ranging from 590 to 1,1139 square feet in size, with rents starting at $1,302 per month and ranging as high as $1,799 per month.
The Architects Collective is designing the building, which is closely resembles renderings produced prior to the start of construction.
"The building effectively negotiates the grade of the sloping site and provides two levels of parking while also accommodating ample open space within the program," reads a design description from the firm's website. "In fact, the lush streetscape gracefully slips under the building into a spacious courtyard that visually opens to the neighborhood."
A similar permanent supportive housing development with 63 apartments recently broke ground a block north on Westlake Avenue.
