An auto repair shop in Historic South-Central could make way for affordable housing, per a new approval issued by the City of Los Angeles.

The property, located at 632 E. Washington Boulevard, was recently approved for the construction of a new five-story, nearly 57-foot-tall building which would feature 71 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments through the Mayor's Executive Directive 1. Save for a single manager's unit, all of the apartments would be reserved for rent by low- and moderate-income households.
The project, which would sit within walking distance of the A Line's San Pedro Station, would not include on-site residential parking.
City records list the project applicant as Javid Levian of Washington San Pedro, LLC. Plans included with the project approval letter come from consulting engineer B. Raeen.

The proposed development is in good company along Washington Boulevard, just south of Downtown, joining a handful of similar affordable housing developments. That includes a recent AMCAL affordable housing complex at 220 E. Washington Boulevard and a proposed development from Hollywood Community Housing at 306 E. Washington Boulevard.
