A Christian church in University Park is looking to bring new housing to a site just south of the 10 Freeway.

The proposed project, which would be on land owned by United University Church, would be located at 2208 S. Union Avenue. The project site spans the east site of Union between 22nd Street to the north and 23rd Street to the south.

Developer LH Housing is behind the proposal, which calls for demolishing existing single-story structures to clear the way for a new six-story edifice featuring 155 one-bedroom apartments with parking for 24 vehicles. A new space for United University Church would be located on the ground floor of the building at 23rd Street, with other habitable spaces planned along the rest of the street frontage.

JPark Architects is designing the project, which was recently presented to the University Park Historic Preservation Overlay Zone board for review.

The building design is described in a presentation as a contemporary interpretation of the "Commercial Vernacular" style with a facade of brick veneer.

Affordable housing developments on land owned by religious institutions are streamlined by the state bill SB 4. Numerous churches across the City of Los Angeles have partnered with developers on similar projects.
