A long-vacant property directly across the street from West Compton's Roy Campanella Park could birth an affordable housing development.
According to a document submitted to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Hollywood Community Housing Corporation has requested approval to construct 85 dwelling units on a 2.72-acre site at 14803 South Stanford Avenue. The nearly 113,000-square-foot complex would house persons at the extremely low income, very low income and low income levels in a mixture of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.
Renderings of the project, which is being designed by Pasadena-based Shelter Architects, portray the Stanford Apartments with buildings between two and three stories in height, wrapped by a surface parking lot. Each building has its own communal amenities, as well as access to multiple landscaped courtyards.
A timeline for the low-rise development is unclear.
Historic images show that the property has been vacant for well over 60 years.
