After more than one year of construction in San Pedro,  another affordable housing complex from South Los Angeles-based developer SoLa Impact is beginning to take shape.

Vertical construction is now complete at 685 4th Street, where the developer is in the midst of work on a five-story, 28-unit apartment complex with ground-level parking. The new housing, when completed, will be made available for rent by senior veterans and formerly unhoused persons.

At the time of the project's groundbreaking in July 2021, The Daily Breeze reported that the new building just south of Gaffey Street was being designed by architect Brian Noteware. The contemporary low-rise structure will include rooftop amenity deck and a recreation room.

Completion was originally expected within 12 to 18 months after the start of construction.

SoLa Impact, which specializes in mixed-income and affordable developments in its home neighborhood of South Los Angeles, also built a larger 48-unit apartment complex nearby in San Pedro.
