The project, located on a previously vacant site at 619-629 S. Westlake Avenue, consists of a five-story edifice that will feature 78 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments - including 77 units of affordable and permanent supportive housing - at completion.

The Architects Collective is designing the building, which is shown in renderings with a contemporary look.

"The building effectively negotiates the grade of the sloping site and provides two levels of parking while also accommodating ample open space within the program," reads a design description from the firm's website. "In fact, the lush streetscape gracefully slips under the building into a spacious courtyard that visually opens to the neighborhood."

According to a 2021 city staff report, the 619 Westlake apartments will cost approximately $52 million. Its relatively high per unit cost of more than $670,000 is inflated in part due to factors including design requirements due to the neighboring Westlake Theatre and various sustainability features, according to the report.  Funding for the project includes a variety of state and local sources.
