Northeast of the Van Nuys Civic Center, construction is underway for a new affordable housing complex from Drona Investments.
Located at 14243 Sylvan Street, the replaces a triplex with what will eventually be a five-story structure featuring 81 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments without on-site parking.
The apartments will cater to a combination of moderate-, low-, and very low-income households, making the project eligible for density bonus incentives permitting a larger building than otherwise allowed by zoning rules, as well as streamlined approvals.
Ahk Architecture is designing the contemporary podium-type building, while Green Republic Landscapes is serving as landscape architect.
Los Angeles County's pilot land bank program recently moved to acquire a nearby site for the construction of a larger affordable housing complex.
