In South Los Angeles, the wrapping is off for a new affordable housing development from Domus Development.

Located just north of Manchester Avenue at 800 W. 85th Street, the project consist of a four-story building on the west side of Hoover street that will feature 90 studio and two-bedroom apartments and surface parking for 14 vehicles.

According to an April 2023 Housing Department staff report, the apartments are to be reserved for households earning up to 50 percent of the area median income level.

KFA Architecture is designing the project, which is named Domus Ambrosia, and is shown in plans with a street-fronting plaza and a larger interior courtyard for use by residents along the western side of the property.

The project was previously part of the portfolio of Skid Row Housing Trust, the once-prolific developer and operator of permanent supportive housing that dramatically collapsed in late 2022. The Ambrosia site was among many properties that found themselves in the hands of other developers after the non-profit's struggles came to light.
