Last week, Carson officials and development firm Thomas Safran & Associates broke ground on Veterans Village, a new affordable housing complex at the corner of Carson and Figueroa Streets.

The project, located just east of the Harbor Freeway, will consist of a four-story building featuring 51 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments reserved for veterans.  Plans also call for 2,500 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, a 73-car garage and open space amenities, reports the Daily Breeze.

Units at Veterans Village will be side aside for households earning up to 60 percent of the area median income, with monthly rents ranging between $326 and $1,345.  Carson residents are to be given first choice of the apartments when the project is completed in Fall 2019.

Veterans Village is the fourth affordable housing complex that Thomas Safran & Associates has built in Carson.
