A report to the Pasadena Design Commission reveals plans for a mixed-use affordable housing complex just east of the Pasadena City College campus.

The project from San Diego-based CRP Affordable Housing and Community Development, slated to replace a trio of commercial buildings at 1756-1776 E. Colorado Boulevard, calls for the new construction of a seven-story building containing 88 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments with 2,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and parking for 23 vehicles.

Shelter Architects is designing the project, which is named Colorado Crest.

"The design techniques employed achieve a strong and defined base and a balanced solid-to- void relationship across all facades which help anchor the building to its site and effectively address the mass and scale of the building consistent with its architectural concept," reads a staff report to the Commission.

The project is being presented for a preliminary design review, and no vote on the concept is expected at this point in time.

Elsewhere in Pasadena, CPR is also developing an affordable housing complex near the A Line's Sierra Madre Villa Station.
