Amgen is planning a $600-million research and development facility at its headquarters campus in Thousand Oaks, the company announced this week.
"At Amgen, we're continuing to invest in the future of American science and innovation," said Amgen chairman and chief executive officer Robert A. Bradway in a news release. "This new center will empower our scientists with the tools and collaborative environment they need to shape the next era of scientific discovery and advance medicines that improve human health."
The new complex is expected to commence construction in the third quarter of 2025, and will create hundreds of jobs for researchers and engineers working on therapies and disease treatments.
The Ventura County Star reports that the new facility will replace Building 14, which is one of the original 1980s buildings of the company's headquarters campus. The exact size of the new construction is unclear.
Amgen has also recently announced plans for a $900-million expansion of its manufacturing center in Ohio and plans for a $1-billion manufacturing facility in North Carolina.
