A document from the Los Angeles City Planning Commission (CPC) has revealed renderings for the Amalfi Apartments, a proposed multifamily residential development in Baldwin Hills.

Developer Abraham Shofet, through his company JMDB Holdings, is planning to demolish a vacant medical office building at 3831 W. Stocker Street to build a four-story apartment building featuring 74 studio, one- and two-bedroom dwellings and a below-grade parking garage.  The project would utilize density bonus incentives, which are requested in exchange for providing seven units of very low income housing.

Renderings of the proposed development, which is being designed by SCALA Architecture & Planning, portray a colorful 45-foot tall building.  According to the CPC item, the low-rise structure would incorporate communal amenities such as an outdoor deck and lounge spaces, as well as private open space through exterior balconies.

The proposed development is a downsized version of Shofet's earlier plan for the proproperty, which had called for a taller 124-unit building.

Planning staff have recommended that the CPC approve the project, although additional details about its timeline are currently unclear.

The Amalfi is located one block from the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza shopping center, where Capri Capital Partners is planning for a 2-million square foot development featuring new retail space, offices, hotel rooms and apartments.  A subway station on Metro's Crenshaw/LAX Line is now under construction along the perimeter of the mall.
