Prolific Santa Monica-based developer WS Communities has made headlines for its large mixed-use projects in neighborhoods across the Westside. In the neighboring Sawtelle community, the developer is midway through construction on a new apartment complex of a relatively modest scale.
The project, now taking shape just west of the I-405 Freeway, sits on a single parcel of land located at 1775 Beloit Avenue. The seven-story building, which is already topped out, will feature 16 apartments above a single level of subterranean parking at completion.
City records list the project's architect as a principal with Culver City-based ShubinDonaldson. A rendering depicts the finished product as a contemporary podium-type structure, similar to other recent developments on nearby blocks in Sawtelle.
The project site, purchased by WS Communities in 2017 for $3.5 million, was previously developed with a smaller 10-unit apartment complex completed in the early 1970s.
While the bulk of its portfolio is located within its hometown of Santa Monica, WS Communities has ventured into Los Angeles before. The company is now in the final stages of construction at a 16-story apartment tower at Wilshire Boulevard and La Jolla Avenue in Beverly Grove, and has also secured entitlements for a mixed-use building at the former site of a Norm's restaurant in West Los Angeles.
