Another day brings another mixed-use development to the Arts District.
Earlier today, plans were filed with the City of Los Angeles to construct a residential-retail complex at 5th and Seaton Streets, one block west of the new Arts District park. The project, which is linked to the limited liability company WW-5th & Seaton, would consist of 218 live/work lofts above 18,400 squre feet of retail space. A total of 24 residential units would be set aside for very low income households.
Plans also call for approximately 22,000 square feet of open space and amenities - including a resident's gallery. Parking for up to 225 vehicles would be provided in an on-site garage.
A case filing with the Department of City Planning indicates that the developer has requested both a general plan amendment and a zone change, among other discretionary and administrative approvals.
The project is the latest in an unprecedented string of proposed developments for the Arts District. The past month alone has yielded submissions from AvalonBay Communities, Bolour Associates and other developers through subsidiaries. The recent spate of proposals is headlined by SunCal's $2-billion project at 6th and Alameda Streets, which could create a pair of skyline-altering 58-story towers.
