Irvine-based developer Spectrum Group has retooled its plans for the Fig, a mixed-use complex proposed for a large property adjacent to Exposition Park.
The revised project, slated for a 4.4-acre site across the street from Banc of California Stadium, has discarded a proposed 21-story hotel tower fronting 39th Street. Instead, updated renderings from architecture firm WATG portray a stout seven-story structure stretching north-to-south across the property.
When initially filed with the City of Los Angeles, the Fig called for a 222 units of student housing, 186 market rate and affordable apartments, a 298-room hotel and over 45,000 square feet of street fronting commercial space. It is currently unclear how the new design affects these figures.
The project's initial study estimated an approximately 18-month construction timeline, although a start date has not been announced.
