An office building in Warner Center is the neighborhood's latest property targeted for redevelopment with affordable housing, per a recent application to the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.
The project from Elysian Housing, dubbed "The Green," is slated for an approximately 120,000-square-foot lot at 21155 Califa Street. Plans call for the construction of a seven-story edifice featuring 316 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments above parking for 300 vehicles.
According to findings included with the application, the apartments are to be reserved for low- and moderate-income renters, save for two manager's units.
Koning Eizenberg is designing The Green, which is depicted in renderings with a contemporary look and multiple interior courtyards. The building would include decorative signage evoking the look of Mid-Century dingbat apartments.
The project follows on the heels of a similar affordable housing development from Meta Housing now taking shape around the block at 21300 Oxnard Street. Meta Housing is planning two additional affordable housing projects elsewhere within the Warner Center area, which has previously seen predominantly market-rate construction.
