Earlier this week, LINC Housing and Long Beach officials broke ground on a new affordable housing development near the Blue Line's Pacific Coast Highway Station.
The Spark at Midtown, which will rise at 1900-1940 Long Beach Boulevard, calls for the construction of a five-story building that will feature 95 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments priced for households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income. Approximately half of the apartments will be reserved formerly homeless persons, or those at risk of experiencing homelessness.
“Long Beach’s efforts to address and expand affordable housing opportunities across all parts of the City continues to be a priority,” said Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement. “The Spark will provide affordable homes, address homelessness and further promote the revitalization of the Long Beach Boulevard corridor.”
In addition to featuring amenities such as a community room, a community garden, and after-school programming for children, the Spark development will also sit atop 12,388 square feet of ground-floor retail space, to be occupied by a YMCA Youth Institute, a health clinic, and a cafe. The $52-million development is being designed by City Fabrick, D33 Design, and WHA Architects. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2020. LINC Housing recently broke ground on a similar affordable housing development near the Blue Line in Willowbrook, which is also set to open next year.Interested in finding affordable housing?
