The City of Burbank has adopted plans to expand and revamp its Civic Center.
On April 23, Burbank officials adopted an environmental report for a project which calls for razing existing city buildings and parking areas on sites fronting 3rd Street, Olive Avenue, Orange Grove Avenue, and Glenoaks Boulevard. In their place, plans call for the construction of:
- a new four-story, 119,000-square-foot Central Library and city office building at Olive and Glenoaks;
- a new four-story, 310-car parking structure at Glenoaks and Orange Grove; and
- a 42,430-square-foot public plaza at Olive and 3rd.
The existing Community Services Building, located at 3rd and Orange Grove, would be retained.
Illustrations of the approved project provided at a recent community meeting show a grassy plaza with walking spaces and room for events such as farmer's markets. The adjoining library building would include a rooftop deck looking to the south.
According to a project website, construction is projected to commence in Summer 2027 and be completed by Spring 2029. Plans for the existing Central Library, which sits to the north across Glenoaks Boulevard, have not been announced.
