A $70-million Caltrans project is poised to remake three stretches of Santa Monica Boulevard, the transportation agency recently announced.

State Route 2, much of which corresponds to Santa Monica Boulevard within the City of Los Angeles, will see pavement rehabilitation on three segments:

  • Centinela Avenue to the I-405 Freeway in Sawtelle;
  • La Brea Avenue to the U.S. 101 Freeway in Hollywood; and
  • along Alvarado Street/Glendale Boulevard between State Route 2's terminus in Echo park and the northbound U.S. 101 on- and off-ramps.

Plans call for restoring pavement within each three segments, as well as the installation of new traffic signal poles, curb ramps, bicycle racks, bicycle and pedestrian signage, and transit stop improvements. Notably, the 1.4-mile stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard in the Sawtelle area is poised to add bi-directional bus priority lanes.

Work is to commence in Fall 2025 and conclude by Fall 2028.
