A plan for a hillside park in Chinatown is finally moving forward, per a filing with the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.
The Ord/Yale Street Park, budgeted at approximately $8.25 million, would convert a series of undeveloped properties wrapping the Chinatown Library into public green space.
The L-shaped park, when first unveiled by the Downtown News in 2014, was portrayed with a zig-zagging path flanked by trees and other landscaping. Chess tables, a concession area, play equipment and a viewing area were all included within the project.
AHBE Landscape Architects has been tapped to design the project.
A representative of 1st District Councilmember Gil Cedillo's office indicated in August that the city was expected to close escrow on the entire property by the end of the month, finally allowing the park project to move forward. It was originally scheduled to open last year.
