In Mar Vista, three single-family dwellings at 12602-12610 Matteson Avenue have made for a new co-living apartment complex.

The project, called the Matteson Flats, is being developed by Los Angeles-based developer Category Company.  The four-story edifice will include 15 apartments above a single level of subterranean parking.

Bittoni Architects is designing the apartment complex, which is depicted in renderings as a contemporary low-rise structure clad with a brick facade.  Planned common features include a rooftop deck and a recreation room, while apartments would also feature private balconies.

Completion of the Matteson Flats is expected in Winter 2021, according to a representative of Bittoni Architects.

The development site sits two blocks southwest of the intersection of Venice Boulevard and Wasatch Avenue, where Century City-based LaTerra Development is in the midst of construction on two larger projects which will include a combined total of 129 apartments and 2,100 square feet of ground-floor retail space.

Category Company, which was previously known as Proper Development, is building a $100-million portfolio of co-living apartment communities in partnership with the New York-based company Common, the Los Angeles Times reported in 2019.  Category's is also building projects in Larchmont, Hollywood, and Del Rey.
