A proposed affordable housing complex in South Los Angeles may be getting a mixed-use neighbor.
Last week, the L.A. City Council's Entertainment and Facilities Committee approved a motion by 8th District Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson that calls for control of two city-owned properties at 8752 and 8742 S. Vermont Avenue to be transferred to the Housing and Community Investment Department. HCID would be asked to assemble the currently vacant lots for redevelopment, potentially as a community center with family affordable housing.
The motion is scheduled for consideration by the full City Council on January 31.
Harris-Dawson has previously pushed for an adjacent city-owned lot at 88th Street and Menlo Avenue to be transferred to the local nonprofit Community Build Inc., which would construct a 62-unit homeless housing project on the property
