Construction has commenced for affordable housing for artists in Pomona's downtown neighborhood, SVA Architects announced earlier this month.
The project from non-profit developer National CORE and Pomona-based Arteco Partners, which will span a city block located at 501 E. Mission Boulevard, calls for the construction of a four-story building featuring 75 apartments one, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, as well as surface parking, a gallery, resident lounges, and a courtyard.
Dubbed the Prisma Lofts, the project will also include a mural by artist Oscar Magallanes.
“We worked closely with a diversity of stakeholders to create a project that honors Pomona’s artistic heritage while embracing its future," said SVA Architects principal Lori Ichisaka. "The result is a design that reflects numerous perspectives, and will help bring revitalization to downtown Pomona for a brighter tomorrow.”
The apartments are to be reserved for renters earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income level.
According to a 2024 staff report to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, the total budget for Prisma is more than $52 million. Monthly rents are expected to range from $780 to $2,163 per month.
